If you've come by, you're probably coming from the newsletter which went out yesterday, if not from there, then you can read it here. Over on the left side of the page there is a link to the archive of  newsletters, all two of them. Please leave a comment about how we can make this blog better. It exists to help us all get to know each other better.

4R55E -5R55E Teflon Ring Sizer

Our newest tool is ready.  Since the 4R55E-5R55E went to a solid teflon ring on the stator, we figured it was about time someone made a sizer for it. So, in response to popular demand, TADA! here you go. Made from bronze, with a nice knurl on the end, one more example of Omega Machine & Tool filling the needs of the transmission industry. We're trying hard to overcome our slogan of the best kept secret in the transmission industry.

Soap

There is a discussion going on at TRNi, the transmission forum, about aluminum cases turning dark gray. Dave Drenth, formerly of Stelco, currently of Omega Machine & Tool has this advise.

Some of you are experiencing case discoloration in your jet washers. This is a problem with soap. Hot tanks used a caustic (lye) solution for years, so many soap compounds have some caustic. Unfortunately caustics turn aluminum dark gray. This is not  good for aluminum. Given enough time, caustics will dissolve aluminum alloys. Heat accelerates the process.

Soap compounds that are aluminum safe have no caustics in them.  The soap is high in alkalinity (about 12 where 7 is neutral and lees than 7 is acidic) and must have no foaming characteristics.

Many people use too much soap. Soap will get to a saturation point, and then start to precipitate out of solution. If you see residue building up on the walls of your machine, you may be using too much soap.  A # 2 coffee can is about 5lbs of soap, and will charge a tank of 100 gallons.

Don't know what your machine holds? Measure your tank length,  width, and height. Multiply L X W x H and divide by 231. The answer is number of gallons

BTW TRNi has a members only area and that is where this discussion is going on. There is a free area, but you have to subscribe to get into the members area. It is the best money you will spend if you're a transmission tech. Well, next to the money you spend with us. : )

Welcome to our blog

Most probably if you're here, you've come from the link in our newsletter. As I write this we haven't actually sent it out yet, but I'm looking forward to many visitors over the course of the next few days.

As I mentioned in the newsletter, the purpose of this blog is to stay in touch with our customers. To let you know what we're working on and when a new product becomes available. I would also love to hear from you about any ideas you  have for tools or parts of any kind. Feedback on our products or service would be greatly appreciated also.

The first new thing I would like to announce is the hiring of Dave Drenth in the shop. Dave is the former owner of Stelco. If that name doesn't ring a bell how about Mr Madik or Mini Madik.  They are the finest washing machines in the business. They come with complete water filtration systems. Dave tells me he knows of one shop who hasn't had to change the water in his machine for five years. The washing machine business is a side business, but parts and the Mini Madik are still available from Dave.

Dave has taken over the Machinist duties from Neil Bernoudy. Neil, after being with the company for a combined time of over 10 years, took a job ten minutes from his home. He had commuted for over an hour each way for all that time. He can use the extra time working on the new house he is building. Good luck Neil!

The posts here will be brief and probably not everyday.  In person I'm a man of few words and that is the way it will be here.

On that note, thanks for stopping by!

Borg Warner 4405 Transfer case Problem

I just received a call from Chris in Minnesota who is struggling with his transfer case. Been in and out three time and not even the dealer has a clue what is wrong. Well, Chris you called the right place. The front and rear case halves are made such soft material that the bearing bores and shift shaft bosses wear out and must be repaired. Here is the fix, and here.
